Autism Speaks
About: Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 36 children in the United States today.
We know that there is not one autism but many subtypes, most influenced by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Because autism is a spectrum disorder, each person with autism has a distinct set of strengths and challenges. The ways in which people with autism learn, think and problem-solve can range from highly skilled to severely challenged. Some people with ASD may require significant support in their daily lives, while others may need less support and, in some cases, live entirely independently.
Several factors may influence the development of autism, and it is often accompanied by sensory sensitivities and medical issues such as gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, seizures or sleep disorders, as well as mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and attention issues.
Mission: Autism Speaks is dedicated to creating an inclusive world for all individuals with autism throughout their lifespan. We do this through advocacy, services, supports, research and innovation, and advances in care for autistic individuals and their families.
- Ensure access to reliable information and services across the lifespan
- Support research and innovation that improves quality of life and well-being
- Leverage advocacy, partnerships, and collaboration to strengthen services
- Accelerate solutions for adult needs like transition, employment, and housing
- Live and promote principles of diversity, equity, access, and inclusion
HomeAid Orange County
About: Since 1989, HomeAid Orange County was founded with the goal of ending homelessness by leveraging the trades within the building industry. Our first housing project was a renovation of a farmhouse in the City of Irvine in 1989. Established by the Building Industry Association of Southern California, Orange County Chapter, we primarily construct housing for nonprofit service providers and public entities that serve people experiencing homelessness. Our unique model, centered around in-kind donations of labor and materials from our building industry partners, saves a minimum of 30% of market costs on each HomeAid housing construction project.
As HomeAid, we believe that housing is a human right. Every person deserves a safe and dignified space to call home. Each HomeAid project brings us one step closer to our goal: building a future without homelessness.
Mission: To help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education.
Donate NowRonald McDonald House OC
About: Children heal faster when they are with their families. At the Ronald McDonald House Orange County, we see it every day. And while the Ronald McDonald House Orange County may not be able to make the medicine taste better or erase the pain of a much-needed treatment, we can help lessen the burden for the families we serve. Since 1989, when our Ronald McDonald House opened, we have been making children happier and healthier by keeping families together, giving them a place to rest and refresh. Then we expanded to meet the urgent needs of our community, with the addition of two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms located inside two area hospitals.
Mission: To provide comfort, care, and support to children and families in Southern California.

Donate NowTeen Challenge SoCal
About: Teen Challenge is a non-profit organization that relies entirely on the generous donations, funding and volunteer efforts of both individuals and organizations throughout our communities in order to offer services at no cost to the individual. We know that community involvement and support is an essential component of recovery and necessary to providing services that address the specific needs of the communities involved.
The early years of Orange County Teen Challenge consisted of various homes, offices, and coffee shops. A handful of men and women were committed to bringing freedom to those caught in addiction and prevent many others from ever having to experience the destructiveness of drugs, alcohol and gang violence.
In 2006, Orange County Teen Challenge acquired a 4,000-square foot building, which was renovated to facilitate the rapidly growing youth programs. The new building facilitates parenting classes for families with at-risk youth and pregnant teens, English as a Second Language classes, and support groups. The house behind it was also purchased and is now used to house graduates in the “Mentoring Program” who are in transition from dependents of Teen Challenge to productive members of society.
Evangelism and outreach to at-risk youth and families has always been at the heart of the ministry in Orange County Teen Challenge.
Mission: We provide youth, adults and families with an effective and comprehensive Christian faith-based solution to life-controlling drug and alcohol problems in order to become productive members of society. By applying biblical principles, Teen Challenge endeavors to help people become mentally-sound, emotionally-balanced, socially-adjusted, physically-well, and spiritually-alive.
